Rockwood Terrace

The Rockwood Terrace long-term care home, under construction in Durham, Grey County, is a significant project that forms part of Ontario’s initiative to enhance long-term care facilities. This project is being undertaken by Grey County and is designed to provide a modern and supportive environment for seniors.

The facility, which represents a $91 million investment, will feature 128 upgraded long-term care beds. These will be arranged in a mix of private and basic rooms, promoting both privacy and community interaction. The design incorporates larger room sizes and barrier-free pathways to ensure accessibility and ease of movement for all residents.

In terms of operations, Rockwood Terrace is set to be managed by Grey County itself, reflecting a commitment to integrate the facility seamlessly into the community. This direct management approach by the county underscores its goal to offer a high-quality living environment and robust healthcare services.

The new building is designed to improve infection prevention and control with enhanced features such as separate spaces for clean and dirty laundry and improved air quality systems. Additionally, the facility will include communal dining and activity areas to foster a sense of community among residents.

Construction of Rockwood Terrace is expected to conclude by early 2027, with plans to make the facility a cornerstone for long-term care in the region
