peopleCare Tillsonburg

peopleCare Communities is advancing its plans to significantly enhance senior care services in Tillsonburg, Ontario, through the development of a new long-term care facility. This project comes in response to the Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care’s allocation of 160 new long-term care bed licenses to peopleCare. This initiative is part of a broader $6.4 billion provincial effort aimed at adding over 30,000 new and 28,000 upgraded long-term care beds across Ontario.

Located at 25 Maple Lane, the upcoming facility will occupy a 5.7-acre plot sold by the Town of Tillsonburg to peopleCare for $2.5 million—a site chosen for its ample size and suitability for the expansive project. The comprehensive development plan for this site includes 160 long-term care beds, 150 retirement home beds, and 69 seniors’ apartments, totaling up to 379 units of senior living accommodations. This aligns with peopleCare’s strategy to create integrated care campuses that consolidate housing, care services, and community-based health and social supports.

The project is not only a significant expansion of Tillsonburg’s healthcare infrastructure but is also expected to introduce approximately 200 new jobs into the local healthcare sector. Though initially planned to start construction by spring 2023, delays have adjusted the timeline, with the current agreement allowing for construction to begin within two years of the property transfer, anticipated by April 2023.

This development is a strategic response to the pressing need for additional long-term care resources in Tillsonburg, a priority outlined in the town’s 2021 Community Strategic Plan. It aims to alleviate pressure on local hospitals and enhance the provision of resident-centered care for seniors, particularly those with complex medical needs. While specific services for the Tillsonburg facility have yet to be detailed, peopleCare’s existing projects suggest potential specialized services such as dementia care and programs for francophone and Indigenous residents.

Overall, the Tillsonburg project represents a crucial expansion in senior care options, demonstrating peopleCare’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for long-term care facilities in Ontario’s communities.
