Important Information
The Ambassador Bridge is the busiest commercial border crossing between the United States and Canada, linking Detroit, Michigan, with Windsor, Ontario. Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, it handles approximately 8,000 trucks and 68,000 travelers daily. The bridge connects directly to major highways—Interstate 75 on the U.S. side and Highway 3 via Huron Church Road in Canada, where 17 traffic lights can cause delays.
Both U.S. and Canadian inspection plazas support NEXUS trusted traveler lanes, and Canada’s side includes an automated NEXUS eGate system. Lane 3 operates as a Ready Lane for RFID-enabled documents during morning hours Monday through Saturday. Commercial services are available Monday to Friday, with limited hours.
Travelers are encouraged to check real-time traffic and wait times before departure. Average delays into Canada are about 10 minutes on weekdays and 20 minutes on weekends. The bridge has duty-free shops on both sides, including one of the few with duty-free gas. The Canadian shop is located in Windsor; the U.S. shop is near the bridge plaza off Lafayette Street.
